• The winner in Sri Lanka's election for President, Mahinda Rajapaksa, has jailed the loser Sarath Fonseka. The next day, Rajapaksa ordered Parliament dissolved and ordered new elections. Other reports add that Rajapaksa has jailed dozens of his critics including media figures and has fired several high-ranking Army officers for campaigning for Fonseka.
